The 2-Minute Google Tweak That Brings In More Calls
Did you know Google lets you pick your primary business category in your Google Business Profile (the listing that shows on Google Maps)?
Here’s the kicker: if you’ve got the wrong one, you’re basically hiding from customers who would’ve called you.
Example:
- A home contractor in Massapequa listed “Construction Company” as their main category.
- But locals search for “Roofing Contractor.” Guess what—competitors show up first.
What to do:
- Search your own business on Google.
- Click “Edit Profile” → “Business Information” → “Category.”
- Make sure your primary category matches what locals actually type.
More accurate = more calls. It’s that simple.

Why Online Reviews Make or Break You
BrightLocal found that 87% of people won’t consider a business with less than 3 stars on Google.
On Long Island, reputation spreads faster than the LIRR at rush hour. Reviews = trust, and trust = calls.
Here’s a simple ask you can copy-paste to your customers:
“Hey [Name], if you’re happy with our work, would you mind leaving a quick review on Google? It helps other neighbors find us.”
