The problem with many crab cakes is that they tend to be heavier on filler ingredients than on actual crab meat. It’s a frustration shared by many seafood lovers who are so excited to try a restaurant’s crabcake only to be left disappointed by the lack of robust flavor of quality crab.
Instead of savoring the sweet, delicate taste of crab, you often find yourself eating a mixture of bread, herbs, and veggies that feature a little bit of crab.
Our Winner: Noah’s Restaurant in Greenport
We’ve tasted a ton of crab cakes in our day — and while there are many good ones up and down the island, Noah’s Restaurant in Greenport is our pick for the best crab cake on Long Island.
Noah’s Lump Blue Claw Crab Cake stands out for its abundance of premium crab meat and absence of filler bread. While the accompaniment changes based on the season, the all-crab, no filler remains regardless of what is on the plate with it — offering a burst of flavor in every bite. One of our favorite preparations (first photo below) is when it’s accompanied by a delectable shaved broccoli remoulade and garnished with fresh micro greens.
So, if you’ve grown tired of crabcakes that prioritize breading over the essence of crab, head to Greenport and watch as the crabcake at Noah’s leaves you craving more.
