What Kind of Articles Are We Looking For?
The best articles answer questions Long Islanders are already asking or help them understand something worth knowing.
For example:
- What Long Island homeowners should check before replacing a garage door.
- How to prepare your landscaping for a Long Island winter.
- Questions to ask before hiring a home improvement contractor.

- What local business owners should know before signing a commercial lease.
These are just examples. We’re open to topics covering home improvement, business, food, health, recreation, community life, and more.
The important thing is that your article provides real value to Long Islanders.
Our Editorial Guidelines
We take the quality of our content seriously. Before submitting an article, please review the following guidelines.
1. Write for People, Not Search Engines
Your article should help readers understand a subject, answer a question, or make a decision.
Write naturally. Share specific advice, examples, and firsthand experience.
Avoid keyword stuffing, repetitive phrases, unnecessary location mentions, and content written primarily to improve search rankings.
A useful article that answers a real question is exactly what we’re looking for.
2. Share Your Expertise, Not a Sales Pitch
You’re welcome to draw on your professional experience and explain what you’ve learned working in your industry.
However, articles should not promote your business or position your company as the solution to the problem being discussed.
For example, an article about replacing a garage door should help homeowners understand what to inspect, when replacement makes sense, and what questions to ask a contractor.
It shouldn’t conclude by telling readers why they should hire your company.
Your expertise should speak for itself. We’ll make sure readers know who contributed the article.
3. Keep Promotional Links Out of the Article
Please don’t include links to your business, services, landing pages, or other promotional websites within the article.
If your article relies on outside research, you can supply source references separately for our editorial review.
You’ll have an opportunity to include a website link in your author bio.
4. Make It Original and Accurate
We accept original articles that haven’t already been published elsewhere.
Please make sure your article:
- Reflects your own knowledge, research, or experience.
- Provides accurate information and supports factual claims.
- Avoids copied material and generic AI-generated filler.
- Respects the rights and privacy of anyone mentioned or photographed.
We may ask you to clarify a claim or provide supporting information.
5. Using AI to Help Write Your Article
We welcome the use of AI to brainstorm ideas, conduct research, organize thoughts, and improve your writing.
What matters is the human experience and expertise behind the article.
We want to publish content that reflects what you genuinely know, have experienced, or can offer from your own perspective—not generic information that anyone could generate with an AI tool.
Bring your own insights, examples, lessons learned, and firsthand knowledge to the writing. Verify any facts or claims obtained through AI research.
Use AI to enhance your contribution, not replace it.
Our readers should come away feeling they’ve learned something from a real person who knows their subject.
6. Follow Our Formatting Guidelines
There’s no required word count. Write as much as you need to cover the topic well, without adding unnecessary material.
For readability:
- Organize the article with descriptive H2 and H3 subheadings.
- Keep paragraphs relatively short.
- Use numbered lists and bullet points where they help readers.
- Choose a clear title that accurately describes the article.
- Submit your article as a Word document or Google Doc.
7. Include Original Photos
We will select a featured image to pair with your article but you are welcome to submit one and we will consider it.
Our image requirements are:
- Aspect ratio: 16:9 landscape.
- Resolution: At least 1,600 pixels wide.
- Formats: JPG, PNG, or WebP.
- Additional photos within the article will be considered where they help illustrate the content.
- Avoid graphics, images with text on them, and illustrations
Please use original photos you own or have permission to publish. If you’re not 100% sure you have permission, please don’t submit it.
How You’ll Be Credited
We want our readers to know who’s sharing their knowledge.
If your article is accepted, you’ll receive:
- Author byline: Your name at the top of the article.
- Author bio: A short, one- or two-sentence introduction at the bottom.
- Headshot: A photo of yourself alongside your author information.
- Website link: One link to your preferred website in your author bio.
Your bio can mention your business, your role, and your experience in the industry.
